Minimally Invasive with RapidRecovery
Discover the Revolutionary RapidRecovery Approach for Hip Replacement
Choose the RapidRecovery approach with us and embrace a life-changing solution that’s tailored to your body’s unique anatomy:
- 1Quicker Recovery: 96% of our patients leave feeling comfortable the next morning. Current UK statistics for traditional hip replacements are 3-5 days recovery in the hospital.
- 2Safe Procedure: Minimally invasive and muscle sparing technique, the vast majority of patients that have this procedure have a “Forgotten Hip”, meaning the replacement feels totally normal.
- 3World renowned Surgeon: Dr Kristian Kley has performed over 10,000 orthopaedic treatments. Dr Kley's success rate performing the RapidRecovery procedure is impeccable.
- 4Enhanced Precision: The surgery is performed twice - once via virtual software and then in the operating theatre, ensuring a more accurate procedure.
- 5No Restrictions: After the procedure, there are no restrictions to movement, whether that be sitting, or general mobility.
Why use this approach?
The RapidRecovery Approach involves making a small incision at the front and side of the hip. The muscles are identified and moved apart, rather than cut to avoid tissue damage and scarring. It’s a day case procedure that means you’ll be able to get up and walk within hours of your surgery, with minimal pain and swelling and – in many cases – without the need for crutches.

FAQs

The RapidRecovery approach is a derivate of the Röttinger approach which is very well documented. Dr. Kley has developed the entire pathway into a surgical pathway now named RapidRecovery Hip Replacement.
The RapidRecovery Approach is appropriate for most patients who need a total hip replacement and want to return to a normal lifestyle as quickly as possible. You’ll be able to discuss your expectations with your consultant during your first appointment, and they’ll be able to advise you about the next steps.
Most people who opt for this minimally invasive hip replacement procedure aim to return to an active lifestyle, including sport, without any restrictions or a long recovery period.
Traditional hip replacement in the UK is usually done through a ‘posterior approach’. This involves a large incision through muscle and tissue behind the hip. This requires certain post operative precautions in terms of sitting and movement and there is a 1-5 % risk of hip dislocation. It can also result in significant pain and scarring. The RapidRecovery Approach requires only a small incision over the front of the hip joint area, the muscles are identified, and a route taken between them, not through them. This means that there is no cutting of muscle which in turn means reduced tissue damage. You’ll likely experience minimal pain and be back on your feet the same day – often without crutches. With traditional hip replacement surgery, patients often stay in hospital for three-five days and need up to six weeks to be able to walk without crutches.
The RapidRecovery approach has a fantastic track record, with most patients experiencing significant pain reduction and improved hip function.
Modern hip implants are built to last a long time, often 15 to 20 years or even more. The actual lifespan can vary depending on individual factors.
To lower your risk of complications and ensure a smooth recovery, follow your surgeon's post-op instructions, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and keep up with your follow-up appointments.
Even though RapidRecovery hip replacement surgery comes with lots of benefits, there are still some risks, just like with any surgery. While complications are pretty rare, they could include:
- Infection: Sometimes, a surgical site can become infected, but with our impeccable hygiene and the use of antibiotics we are able to keep the risk low.
- Blood Clots: There is a risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or a pulmonary embolism, but we take steps like using blood-thinning meds and getting you up and moving to lower the risk.
- Dislocation: Though not common, there is a risk of dislocation at the hip joint. However, by following the clear post-op guidance you receive, this risk goes down.
- Implant Loosening: Over time, some artificial hip joints can loosen, but that's unlikely with modern implants.
While recovery times can vary from person to person, many of our patients are walking unaided within a day. They can get back to work within a few weeks and get back to driving within a week or two.
There is no age limit for the RapidRecovery approach. While age can be a factor, your overall health, lifestyle and the amount of wear and tear on your hip joint are factors we’ll discuss at your first appointment to help determine if this is the right procedure for you.
