Causes
- Inflammation: Inflammation in the sacroiliac joint, often due to overuse or strain, can cause pain in the lower back and buttocks. This inflammation may worsen with certain movements or prolonged standing.
- Joint Dysfunction:When the sacroiliac joint moves too much or too little, it can lead to instability or stiffness. Joint dysfunction often results from misalignment, uneven leg length, or poor posture, causing pain in the lower back and hips.
- Arthritis:Arthritis, particularly osteoarthritis, can wear down the cartilage in the sacroiliac joint over time. This degeneration leads to stiffness, inflammation, and chronic pain, especially in older adults.
- Injury:Trauma from incidents like a fall, car accident, or sudden impact can damage the sacroiliac joint, resulting in acute pain and potential long-term joint instability.
